Beauty standards have been dramatically changing ever since plastic surgery came into the picture. Like a viral disease, the desire to go under the knife has turned into an obsession as more and more people want to look like the stars they see flaunting their perfectly shaped bodies at red carpet events. This is especially true for people living in Los Angeles where it is considered a nightmare when you do not possess the perfect body and the magnetic looks everyone else has.
In an attempt to meet these new standards, Botox, lasers, Restylane and other beauty treatments have become as normal as breathing. It has been taken into extremes by what is now called Frankenbeauty in the world of show business. The unique term is made even more meaningful by the equally outrageous horror-themed titles given to several new treatments recently introduced to achieve ageless beauty. They may vary when it comes to price but not so much in popularity.
The Vampire Face-Lift and its milder version Vampire Needling are particularly new in the market. The former, which costs around $2,800, involves injecting a combined formula of platelet-rich plasma extraction or PRP and Restylane on problem areas of the face. It’s a type of liquid face-lift that lasts longer and causes reduction of pore size.
For Vampire Needling, the price is lower at $1,500 for treatment of other areas. Plastic surgeon Paul Nassif and New York-based dermatologist David Colbert have been using these procedures to treat their patients. Colbert revealed that all models are having Vampire Needling done to have smoother hands.
The second one is the Mummy-like body wraps which is the quickest over-night solution to losing a few inches by extracting water or toxins from the body. In L.A. SlimWrap salon, it’s the latter. The salon offers this service for an affordable price of $135. Potassium-soaked Ace bandages are wrapped around the body prior to a 50-minute trampoline session. The result gives the patients tighter skin and reduces cellulites. The effect can last for about a month. Some of the salon’s customers are Tyra Banks, Ellen DeGeneres and Minnie Driver.
Skin-shaving may sound a bit horrific but this is just a simplified term for dermaplaning. This treatment is a manual exfoliation of several layers of your skin, much gentler than microdermabrasion. At Beverly Hills, smooth skin is just $125 or at a discounted price of $50 when combined with other services such as a full facial.
Not at all scary but just a bit disgusting to imagine, the fourth treatment involves drinking placenta capsules. The temporary organ attaching the fetus to the mother has been known to battle postpartum depression. Sara Pereira of Mommy Feel Good Placenta Preparation Services is responsible for turning this organ into skin-beautifying capsules.
According to Pereira, the placenta is rich in hormones that even Chinese medicine has been using it for thousands of years. It is said to contain life force, making it an effective anti-depressant, or a skin-clearing agent. Placenta capsules are safe even for breastfeeding mothers since these are mostly composed of natural substances. The price ranges from $275 to $325. Ione Skye, January Jones, Kate Hudson and Isla Fisher reportedly take placenta capsules.
The extreme nature of these new treatments may cause reluctance on some patients. But to achieve the perfection of ageless beauty, it has got to take some extreme measures. And this is the main reason why these treatments are increasingly becoming popular in Hollywood and most likely, in other places as well.
