Breast Cancer Survivors to Star in Fashion Show

Breast cancer survivors fought a terrible disease to come out alive on the other side. And some of them are going to strut their stuff down the fashion walkway.

Redlands-Loma Linda Patch posted a story about Loma Linda University and their Health System’s Department of Plastic Surgery sponsoring the Pink Runway fashion show, Sept. 30. The event features survivors of breast cancer modeling the newest clothing from Macy’s and benefits those that overcame the disease. A silent auction, food and activities will be part of the event.

University spokesman Herbert Atienza says that the models are all breast cancer survivors that had breast reconstruction. He notes that the occasion “will honor all breast cancer survivors, celebrate their survival, and remember those who have been lost.”

Loma Linda University’s involvement goes beyond the event. Dr. Subhas Gupta, chairman of the university Health System’s Department of Plastic Surgery, declares that the organization is being active in educating women on reconstructive choices after their surgeries. They state that 7 of 10 women do not know they have choices and that they “view this initiative as a critical one in educating women with breast cancer about their rightful options.”
