Breast Implant Recipients Get 3D Image Previews

Moviegoers are not the only ones to experience 3D: breast image patients in Miami are seeing how their plastic surgery results will look before they undergo their operations. Miami Plastic Surgery is using their Vectra system to provide patients with images of how the procedure is projected to look.

NBC Miami posted the story about Miami Plastic Surgery’s innovative camera system. Six cameras take pictures at the same time, creating 3D images and a before-and-after animation sequence. Surgeons can use the system to sample implants of numerous sizes from different manufacturers. The cameras can also give surgeons pertinent information—like the accurate volume of each breast to account for asymmetry.

Breast augmentation is the most requested form of cosmetic surgery in the US, with more than 300,000 done in 2011. The Vectra system ensures that patients are aware of their options and will be satisfied. Dr. Michael Kelly of Miami Plastic Surgery says that while he’s never had dissatisfied patients, he had some that say “if I had to do it all over again I’d go a little bit bigger. So I think this will help us in that process.”

The system is favored by their customers, including Stephanie Cristobal, who was concerned about how her implants would look. “I think my biggest issue was getting that right size without overdoing it,” she stated.
