There are a number of options – and oftentimes, people are not aware of all of the different liposuction procedures that are available to choose from, currently. More to the point, If you have stubborn excess fat, there are a number of techniques that can help to contour your body, and take off inches.

When considering which liposuction method is best for us – most of us feel we have to choose only one – but, oftentimes, combining surgical and non-surgical techniques can bring the best results. There are many different procedures available, and your liposuction surgery expert will assist in making the best decision for your needs. Here are a few methods that may be discussed:

Non-Surgical Procedures

Liposonix – A high intensity ultrasound fat reduction procedure that takes about an hour, requires no surgery, incisions, anesthesia or a long recovery. It can remove as much as an inch of fat around the waist and reduce as much as one full clothing size within the 8-12 weeks following the treatment.

Thermage – A radiofrequency skin tightening procedure that can be used on the face or body and is often useful in reducing the appearance of cellulite. The effects are subtle, to begin with; full results happen gradually, between 2-6 months and can be repeated after six months for maintenance and / or improvement.

Surgical Procedures

Liposuction – Traditional Liposuction is an outpatient surgical procedure that removes subcutaneous fat from areas that have not responded to diet and exercise. It is considered a minor surgery, but entails conscious sedation, and incisions. Some swelling and bruising should be expected and recovery usually takes about 2-4 weeks.

Smart Lipo – A less invasive type of liposuction treatment that utilizes laser technology, allows for smaller incisions, a smaller cannula (fat-suctioning device), local anesthesia and a short recovery time,  where the patient can return to work / normal activities within 24-72 hours. The laser within the cannula penetrates the fat cells, rupturing them so that they turn to liquid and are suctioned away. Reduction is noticeable once the swelling subsides; full results show gradually over the course of several months.

Other options include: Tumescent, Ultrasonic and Water-assisted liposuction techniques. Check out your options with a local board-certified liposuction expert.
