Trends inspired by celebrity hair hits pop culture every few years. Before Justin Bieber’s famous bob haircut and bangs, there was Jennifer Aniston’s popular “Rachel” hairdo. Now the hair style love has gone facial, as women are seeking out eyebrows in the vein of actress Megan Fox.
The New York Post featured a story about cosmetic treatment patients seeking new eyebrow looks, copying the fuller, bushier style via eyebrow transplants. The article pegged the increase in the procedures at around 30 percent for New York-based specialists.
The eyebrow operation is considered painstaking and pricey, costing approximately $4,000-8,000 for a three-hour session. The treatment was originally used to treat dog-bite and burn victims, but it has grown in popularity with those looking for cosmetic options. There is no scarring and the hair taken from one’s scalp to put into the brows grows back.
Dr. Jeffrey Epstein says that the trend has grown in the past two years, and he performs 12-15 eyebrow procedures a month. “A lot of women want [to copy] the Kardashians, but Megan Fox is far and away the favorite.”
One patient, Jana Jordan, had about 400 hair follicles transplanted. She sought an eyebrow transplant after she experienced similar results with Latisse, an eyelash enhancement prescription. Her procedure was about 2.5 hours and involved sedation via Valium and Ambien. She got Lidocaine injections for dulling the pain.
Her eyebrows started falling out after the surgery because the follicles became dormant, but then the hair began to grow. She had to start trimming her brows because there was so much hair to deal with. “by six months, I had this old grandfather look going on!” says Jordan. “I was too scared to cut them, and it took a lot of courage to finally do it!”
