There is a saying that you get what you pay for: this is especially important when you are putting your life in someone’s hands for a medical procedure. It is all the riskier when that practitioner is not board-certified, as a woman in Florida learned when she was hospitalized for a bad or contaminated facial injection.

Surgery.org offered the story about Isabel Gonzalez, recipient of a facial injection from a non-certified employee at Viviana’s Body Secrets Spa. Gonzalez thought she was getting vitamin injections for a more youthful look, but she went back after one session after not noticing any results. The owner of the clinic gave an injection with a thick substance, making Gonzalez’s face swell.
The spa owner took Gonzalez to the doctor for treatment. Despite having her face drained, it remained swollen and her infection worsened. After five surgeries, her face is still disfigured, and she is now taking the spa owner—who was arrested for battery and administering treatment without a license—to court. The spa has been shut down.
