It is interesting how cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures set new trends, just like fashion. Years ago, newer, designer surgeries like vaginal rejuvenation and Brazilian Butt Lift procedures were not heard of. There is a newest cosmetic surgery craze in California and traveling east, and that is buttock enhancement. Hollywood stars famous for their bigger and rounder butts like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez are said to spur the interest in this operation. It seems as though curves are coming back!
One of the common techniques of buttock augmentation is the S-Curve Buttock Lift procedure, which uses fat from certain body parts like the abdomen and injects them into the butt area.
This technique, which is a more natural way than buttock implants, is pioneered by plastic surgeon Ashkan Ghavami, who is now teaching this technique to other surgeons.
According to Ghavami, he has done the procedure, which usually costs from $9,000 to $16,000, for about seven years. The operation is most popular among Latinos, blacks, transgender and gays.
Achieving a bigger and rounder butt, however, does not come without some pain.
S-Curve Buttock Lift operation comprises a liposuction along with small incisions. The fat is suctioned into sterile container, washed and put into syringes to be injected into the butt. When injecting the fat, Ghavami makes use of the fanning technique, which boosts cellulite as it fills the skin underneath.
The operation has nothing to do with patients being overweight, contrary to some prejudices and misconceptions.
In 2011, about 13.8 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in the US, an increase of 5 percent from 2010, with breast enhancement, nose jobs, liposuction and facelifts being the most popular operations, says the Association of Plastic Surgeons. The number of butt enhancements has also risen 38 percent from 2010.
